Ospedale ICOT di Latina
Nel 2002 viene affidata a Salvo la progettazione e la direzione dei lavori per il nuovo parco interno ed esterno all’ospedale ICOT di Latina; in particolare: la realizzazione delle fontane, della scalinata d’ingresso, dei locali tecnologici, del frontone d’ingresso in cui colloca il logo del gruppo ospedaliero GIOMI, delle varie fioriere e dei nuovi viali, ma soprattutto, di uno slargo in cui colloca un gruppo scultoreo composto da un altrorilievo raffigurante il tema dell’accoglienza e un tutto tondo che riprende il passo evangelico del buon samaritano.
Ecco l’opera come viene descritta dall’autore: “L’Accoglienza, che già desideriamo nel nostro quotidiano cercandola nel nostro prossimo, tanto più la speriamo nell’accostarci ad una struttura ospedaliera. È in questa circostanza che si fa più vivo lo sperare che qualcuno ci venga incontro, pronto a tenderci una mano, a sostegno delle nostre angosce, delle nostre paure. Qualcuno che si muova a compassione per noi, proprio come fece il Buon Samaritano: una persona qualunque, che soccorre e fa della sofferenza altrui motivo della propria esistenza. Questo è quanto ho voluto raffigurare ed esprimere in queste mie sculture”.
Entrambe le sculture sono in bronzo, raffiguranti soggetti a grandezza naturale, e inserite in elementi in travertino con in interventi in mosaico. Inserita nel parco esterno è anche il bassorilievo “L’Albero Ortopedico”. Per il giardino interno, invece, Salvo realizza l’opera in bronzo “La Scienza e la Medicina”.
In 2002 Salvo was entrusted to the design and construction management for the new inside and outside park of the ICOT hospital in Latina; in particular: the creation of the fountains, the entrance stairway, the technological locals, and the main entrance where the logo of the hospital group GIOMI is placed, the various planters and new avenues, but most importantly, a sculptural group of a relief depicting the theme of acceptance (“L’Accoglienza” – “The Welcome”) and another one which echoes the Gospel story of the Good Samaritan (“Il Buon Samaritano” – “The Good Samaritan”), in an open space.
Here’s how the work is described by the artist:
“The Welcome, that we want to find in our daily lives looking for it in our fellow men, even more in hope of approaching a hospital. It is in these circumstances we hope someone will come towards us, ready to hold out a hand to support our anxieties, our fears. Someone who has compassion for us, just as the Good Samaritan did: An ordinary person who rescues, and makes the suffering of other people the reason of his existence. This is what I wanted to portray and express in my sculptures.”
Both sculptures are in bronze, representing subjects at life size, with inserted travertine elements and mosaic interventions.
There is also a travertine bas-relief called “L’Albero Ortopedico” (“The Orthopaedics Tree”), inserted in the outside park.
For the internal garden, Salvo realizes the bronze work “La Scienza e la Medicina” (“Science and Medicine”).
